AMTG time machine takes you back to 1912!
With around a month to go to Opening Night, AMTG are proud to invite you to step inside the time machine that is musical theatre and join us in Edwardian London for My Fair Lady.
Based on the stage play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw, Lerner and Loewe introduced beautiful songs, heart and a witty script, transforming the 1913 play into this beloved musical, which our audiences will thoroughly enjoy.
My Fair Lady began life with a few draft titles – Lady Liza, London Pride, Promenade, Come to the Ball and Fanfaron, which is a slang term meaning “one who brags about himself”! Higgins? Brag? Surely not! Finally Lerner and Loewe took the title from the English nursery rhyme “London Bridge is falling down” and the rest is set in musicals history.
The simple plot follows pompous Professor Henry Higgins (Keith Reynolds) and Eliza Doolittle (Laura Jones) as they weave their way into each others’ lives and hearts.
With a wonderful and strong cast supporting Keith and Laura, a stage full of blooms from the Covent Garden flower market, all the gallantry and excitement of a day at the Ascot races, and a ball attended by visiting royalty, My Fair Lady is a costume delight, from market vendors to high society ladies and gentlemen.
Added to all this, AMTG Producer/Director David McKnight and Musical Director Alan Hutchinson have introduced an Opening scene and an Ascot scene to marvel at, which of course demonstrates their joint flair at bringing a musical completely to life! You have to be there to see what a marvellous and original job they have done!
My Fair Lady is at the 400 Hall Theatre Repton from 10th to 14th April 2018.
