AMTG Positions Vacant October 2017

AMTG returns to Ivanhoe School!

Calling New Members! Calling New Members!

Calling AMTG New Members!

“My Fair Lady” comes to the 400 Hall, Repton School from 10th-14th April 2018 and we would love to hear from you if you would like to join us for this spectacular show which has just been released after several years’ absence from the amateur stage.

We will be holding our New Members’ Auditions on Tuesday 5th September at 7.30pm in Ashby – please email enquiries@amtg.org.uk for further details and to register interest in attending.

Spokesperson for AMTG Karen Jamieson recalls her own audition, way back in 2000 and says “I had learnt a song from Sunset Boulevard, practised it, performed it in front of the mirror, and became “Norma Desmond”.

On New Members’ night, in front of the whole company, and the audition panel (Chair, Musical Director and Director), I launched myself into my performance, only to be stopped after the first two verses, and invited to join by Gordon Fletcher, AMTG’s Chairman for 17 years.

“Those who know me won’t be surprised to hear that I asked to be allowed to finish the song! Since that day I have been very fortunate to play many rôles in AMTG productions – my favourite being Golde in Fiddler on the Roof. You won’t regret joining AMTG, in whatever capacity – you will not find a more welcoming group and will be a part of our “family” from the moment you walk through the doors.”

We would love to hear from anyone, age 14 years and upwards, to come along to our New Members’ night – we promise you won’t regret it, and you will start your theatre journey with one of the most professional and successful amateur groups.

We look forward to hearing from you also if you would like to be part of our technical/backstage team. Contact enquiries@amtg.org.uk and also visit our website amtg.org.uk to see what a great company we are!

Oliver becomes one of the “Children of the New Forest”!

We always say that young people are the life blood of our group, and that is true of all that appeared in our latest triumphant production of Oliver! in April.

It is with immense pride that we can report one of our Olivers, Liv Carroll-Walsh, who is a pupil at Derby High School, has been chosen to join the Youth Music Theatre Company of 2017 who held a National Audition Tour throughout the UK and Ireland earlier in this year. Liv will be performing in the musical adaptation of Frederick Marryat’s “Children of the New Forest” in August 2017 at The Barbican Theatre in Plymouth.

After Liv’s three hour audition at the Birmingham Hippodrome, YMT offered her a place saying “Congratulations on scoring so highly in your audition, although our casting process takes into account much more than just your ability to sing a note or learn a piece of choreography. To be offered a place on Children of the New Forest – YMT’s under-16s project for 2017 – means that you impressed us with a particular sense of maturity and leadership ahead of your age, as well as your vocal and physical skills”.

Liv will attend a 2-week residential summer school in Plymouth where she will work with professionals who have been involved in a wealth of musical theatre projects, and she will then appear in the production at The Barbican.

AMTG wish Liv a most enjoyable time with YMT and we are very proud of her. It goes without saying that her parents Emma and Dave and all their family are over the moon about Liv’s forthcoming experience!

The Alumni of YMT include Ed Sheeran (also a Patron), Lauren Samuels, Sam Smith, Kayleigh McKnight, Gabriel Mokake, Freya Wilson and Billy Cullum to name but a few, and Zoë Wanamaker CBE is one of their Patrons.
