First formed in 1962 as The Ashbeian Gilbert & Sullivan Society – our first production was “The Mikado”, presented at Ashby Town Hall.
In 1973, the Society was renamed The Ashbeian Operatic Society, and in 1977 we moved to The Ivanhoe School (later Ivanhoe College) for our production of “Orpheus in the Underworld”.
The Society performed all subsequent shows at The Ivanhoe School until 2012 – changing our name again in 2004 to The Ashbeian Musical Theatre Group. The new name reflected the change of productions over the years, moving from operetta to musical theatre, and our first show with the new name was “Anything Goes” in 2005.
In 2012 we presented our 50th Anniversary Concert “The Best of Times”, and this was to be our last production at The Ivanhoe College.
The search for a new theatre home began and AMTG were fortunate to obtain the use of The 400 Hall at Repton School, with our first production there being “Hello, Dolly!” in October 2012.
We are very privileged to call The 400 Hall our theatre home, it is a wonderful venue, and reflects the standard of productions that AMTG have become known for.
For our Emerald Anniversary we are presenting the ever-popular Lionel Bart musical “Oliver!” – and expect to repeat our 2009 success by performing to sell-out audiences.
It is remarkable that now, in our 55th year, two of our wonderful Fagin’s Gang are the grand-daughters of two original members, Carol and Keith Youles, and it just goes to prove that at AMTG we really love a strong family connection!
A talented cast of 36 juniors – as the workhouse children and Fagin’s Gang – have joined the adult members and the cast list is complete with local canine actor Kobi playing Bill Sykes’ dog, Bullseye!
There are only a handful of tickets left, and these can be obtained by visiting the Box Office here on our website, or by phoning 07527 228945.
